You’ve probably read all of the wonderful writing about Nicholson Baker and his new novel, House of Holes.
We here at Capital have a special affinity for Mr. Baker and his wife for giving us this book, The World on Sunday : Graphic Art in Joseph Pulitzer’s Newspaper (1898 - 1911). Tom McGeveran keeps it on his desk. Its pages provide inspiration that is embedded in Capital’s D.N.A. We often flip through it when we need direction for story ideas and new design elements. It’s a lovely book and highly recommended to anyone interested in history, journalism, design and New York City.

Capital co-founder (and city politics obsessive) Josh Benson appeared on NY1’s “Inside City Hall” on Friday, during the Reporters’ Roundtable segment, to discuss Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s rocky week and the change of power in Egypt. NY1 doesn’t allow embedding, but you can see the video here! Skip ahead to around 2:11 in the first half of the video to hear Josh on the Bloomberg’s inevitable third-term gaffs, and around 3:40 in the second segment to hear him on how the live broadcasts of the revolution in Cairo changed the power dynamics. Watch, if you please.

Not only is it his birthday (happy birthday Josh!), but on Tuesday he had a roundtable of top-notch political editors and journalists in stitches within 1:30 minutes of taping.
